The Kenton Tea Party meeting on Wednesday, Dec 7 at PeeWee's Restaurant, 519 Enterprise Drive, Crescent Springs, KY. The meeting is presented to educate those wanting to learn about options to change the current tax system. The discussions about our tax system have increased since Herman Cain proposed the 9-9-9 plan. The meeting starts at 6:00PM and ends at 7:30PM. Many people arrive early, 5:30PM and order off the menu or stay after the meeting to socialize. Bios of the presenters from the Kentucky Fair Tax organization, http://fairtaxky.org/ are presented below.

What is the FairTax plan?

The FairTax plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue neutrality, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment. The FairTax Act (HR 25, S 13) is nonpartisan legislation.

It abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities. The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.

The FairTax:

  • Enables workers to keep their entire paychecks
  • Enables retirees to keep their entire pensions
  • Refunds in advance the tax on purchases of basic
    necessities
  • Allows American products to compete fairly
  • Brings transparency and accountability to tax policy
  • Ensures Social Security and Medicare funding
  • Closes all loopholes and brings fairness to taxation
  • Abolishes the IRS

Bios of the presenters for Fair Tax Kentucky.

Mark Sheffer:

Born and raised in Utah, he has an undergraduate degree from BYU and an advanced degree from St. Mary's College in Moraga, CA. He spent two years living and working in Japan. He returned to work in California for Memorex Corporation and also for Lockheed Missile & Space where he worked in advanced surveillance. In 1989 he moved to Lexington Kentucky with Toyota Motor Corp. Since June 2011 he has volunteered his time serving as the Congressional District 4 Director for the FairTax in Kentucky. It has been said that "Money is the mother's milk of politics" and Mark firmly believes that real tax reform is the only way to reshape the political landscape and diminish the rampant corruption that is so prevalent in Washington. To date, the FairTax is the best vehicle he's found to accomplish this goal.

Okey Spaulding:

Is an underpaid and over taxed American fed up with the status quo. He has studied the FairTax and has been active in writing letters to editors and politicians in support of the FairTax. To get the message out and to show his support of the Fair Tax, he drives the FairTax Mobile, a rolling advertisement for the FairTax. He has driven the FairTax Mobile all over the Midwest and Midsouth.
