No doubt you've heard the wailing and seen the hand-ringing about Kentucky's gas tax dropping due to the lower gas prices we are seeing. Our own Fiscal Court voted 7-1 to pass a resolution asking the State legislature to 'stabilize' the road fund, though the resolution failed to indicate how it expected the legislature to accomplish this. The resolution, no doubt provided by those with an interest in growing the Transportation department budget, avoided any discussion of the real facts about the gas tax.

Over the last 50 years we, the people, have lost control of our country to “Big Government” they consist of arrogant, self-serving, elitist, hypocrites. Our elected representatives (except for a very select few) continue to claw out special exemptions for themselves from the laws that the rest of America must conform. Congress and the President look increasingly like the royalty we fought to overthrow in our Revolutionary War. We have reached the point where our President declares he will bypass Congress to enact, or change, laws that he does, or doesn’t like. From my high school civics classes, I easily recognize the unconstitutionality of their acts and there is no recent evidence that Congress will grow a spine anytime soon. The President has stated that Congress is uncooperative. And that he will bypass Congress, and enact laws on his own. I have not heard any objections from our elected Congressional heroes. Instead he got a standing ovation from those he had just verbally neutered. This has become a shameful era in the history of the U.S. Congress!
America is nearing an inflection point. We, the people, are going to have to get involved ask your family, your neighbors, your coworkers to get involved, find out who your representatives are and send them letters, call and leave messages, leave green slips, we much get involved otherwise all will be lost.
Ask yourself this question? Will you be content to allow your government to take away one freedom after another in return for providing safety? Is that a trade that people in the land of the free and the home of the brave will be proud to make?
Benjamin Franklin once said, “Those who would sacrifice essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty, or safety.”
